The Sacramento & San Joaquin

Morley Ave Tower - A combination of mergers, improved communications, and centralized train control systems have all but eliminated the traditional interlocking tower.  But, in to the the 1950's and 1960's,there were still hundreds of these towers protecting junctions and crossings.  Morley Ave  Tower protects the junction between the Santa Fe and the Sacramento and San Joaquin near of Merced, CA.

The tower was built from an American Model Builders "generic" interlocking tower.  It  is a typical easy to build "peel and stick" laser kit that can be painted and assembled in an evening or two.  My model still needs a smoke jack (I lost the original somewhere on my work bench), a tower name, and some light weathering.   I don't normally due interiors but with all the windows, this structure may need one.
